We have very exciting news to share! During the week of July 7-11, Sowing Opportunities small, but powerful team – project manager, agricultural engineer, and social worker – met with the school principal and teachers of two schools in the Northeast region of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala.
Everyone got involved! It was like a village coming together to create something powerful and incredible!

At Sisbilhá School, they’re building another double greenhouse table. It’s a small school, and we’re building the second double table. In the future, we plan to add two more double tables to ensure more food for the student population.
And in the new, second primary school, in Fray Bartolomé de las Casas School, they are constructing seven DOUBLE greenhouse tables – a total of 14!

The meetings between our team, the school principal and teachers in Fray School were exciting.
One teacher at Fray School came to meet our project manager at the entrance of the school. He told him, “Your presence is so welcome here. We have been waiting for you.”
They then walked together to the site where the greenhouses were being constructed. The teacher said, “You guys are messengers from God. In all the years that I’ve been teaching here, I’ve never seen anything like this. You don’t want anything from us. Your only interest is in seeing the kids have a good meal.”
In the coming weeks, I’ll share with you more exciting stories – of how the land is cleared to make space for the greenhouses, how the people get the soil for the greenhouses, how the greenhouses are constructed, how even young children work together as a team, and the enthusiasm that is palpable for this project.
Thank you for your generosity in making this a reality!
