August developments at Fray School

Dear friends and family,

I am delighted to share with you the news of our team returning to the region one month after setting up the greenhouses in the Fray Bartolome de las Casas School.

I will separately write with the results from the Sisbilhá School and the family participants in the second group of Sisbilhá and in Salaguna.

In the next few weeks, I will send you a series of emails and some videos:

  • Students and teachers have lessons from the agricultural engineer
  • Plants are growing tall
  • Students and teachers water and apply insecticide to the plants
  • Girls are fully involved in the learning
  • Corn is being grown in black plastic bags

In today’s email, I will share some photos and a video of how the agricultural engineer teaches the entire school how deep and how far apart to plant, how much to water the plants, how many days apart to apply (organic) fertilizer (made from chicken manure) and (organic) insecticide.

Learning from the Sowing Opportunities agricultural engineer:

Everything that you see was provided through donations and sales of Guatemalan fair trade handicrafts.

Your donations make this happen.

Thank you for lifting up those who have so little.

In solidarity,

Fern and the Guatemalan team of Sowing Opportunities
