Sowing Opportunities’ team is back in the region because of the unexpected progress of the vegetables at Fray School.
They’ve just started, and their greenhouse tables have already yielded crops! We have a growing period of only 30-40 days! They’re starting to protect the plants they already had, removing the ones that aren’t working anymore, and preparing the soil for new plants. That’s surprising. And to keep them going, we’ll make an effort to bring in more seedlings by the end of the month.
All this work will bear fruit again in early November (about 30 to 35 days later).
And we’re going to witness what will be the last harvest of the school year, and a special group (appointed by the teachers themselves) will be there to take turns taking care of the tables.
So that they’ll have crops again in January 2026.
The photos themselves tell the story:

That’s why we’re surprised by the excellent work, and also why we decided to make this extra effort.
We will check on families in November, but they’re doing so well that we’ll be back in late September to early October to bring more seedlings to both Fray School and Sisbilhá School, ensure another harvest for the year, and send them off to Christmas vacation well-fed (to the extent that we can).
We are grateful for your donations that have made these amazing results possible!
Donations allow this work to develop!
Thank you for being part of this exciting development,
Fern and the Sowing Opportunities team
