In January 2026, Sowing Opportunities’ agricultural work in the six public primary schools began. Our team has already made two trips to the region – in early February and in early March.
Because we are now servicing four villages and six public primary schools, there will be eight trips in total this year.
In fact, because the sixth school appeared not to have the commitment necessary to do the work, our project manager had to remove that school from the program. As he has a list of those who have strongly requested to participate, the team will be working with the next one on the list and they have an interview scheduled for April.
In the words of Sowing Opportunities’ project manager, “From now on, any hint of failure means cancellation—we are aiming solely for success.”
Here are some photos of the five schools:
Sisbilhá School
New School of Guadalupe
Flavio Gutiérrez School (Fray Bartolomé)
Salaguna School
Saint Benedict Street School II

The benefits to the program are:
- The students now not only are learning a trade, they are seeing a way forward, to stay in Guatemala, and to care for their families with their newfound knowledge.
- The students recognize the value of growing in greenhouses, which require less space and less water, and the results are seen exponentially. They are able to speak about this, and their successes.
One of the reasons that the seedlings grow so rapidly is that Sowing Opportunities’ agricultural engineer invented and applies an organic soil additive – a unique, special formula, which is extremely effective in creating high yield produce.
The mixture consists of soil substrate, a disinfectant, and a fertilizer used to prepare the soil.
Please join us in this exciting new venture – the first of its kind across Guatemala – to have greenhouse agriculture in public primary schools!
