Valentine’s Day 2025 – Love is thriving

Valentine’s Day 2025

Dear friends and family,

Here in the U.S., many of us are busy preparing sweets and flowers for our Valentines or close friends on Valentine’s Day. Students often create artful valentine cards for their classmates.

In Sisbilhá, Guatemala, in eastern Alta Verapaz, there are no valentines exchanged. However, in the one room classroom in this remote, indigenous village, something akin to love is developing.

This February, students are learning the skills and receiving the resources to work in the school greenhouse as part of their classwork.  In May, they will be able to sell vegetables in the local marketplace as a school project, bringing income to their families
