The Students in Fray School Listen to the Agricultural Engineer

Imagine today’s students in the U.S. paying rapt attention to a visitor, teaching them about something they knew nothing about.

Now, imagine students in a region where, due to widespread poverty, they experience hunger and their caregivers don’t have much time to dedicate to their development.

What you are witnessing in this photo is students – both boys and girls – between grades 4 and 6, learning from Sowing Opportunities’ agricultural engineer, how to care for the plants.

In the foreground, you can see plants that were sown one month ago, when our team was last in the region.  The greenhouses themselves were built by the students and their teachers.  They learned how to care for their precious plants so that they would grow well.  In the background are plants that were sown one week ago.

The techniques that the agricultural engineer imparts are at an expert level, and his teaching skills match his technical capabilityTrue learning occurs when there is meaning and delight in what we’re studying.

We are grateful for the deep impact in this forgotten region.

Won’t you join us in continuing this development?

Blessings,

Fern and the Guatemalan team
