Cost: $1,800 based on single occupancy, including a $425 tax donation to Sowing Opportunities to be part of our mission. Includes an in-country flight, but excludes international airfare.
Sowing Opportunities is offering a pioneering opportunity to travel to the region that we serve, in Northeast Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. With the knowledge of our project manager, Ricardo, and the expertise of our hired tourism agency, Jaguar Travels in Antigua, Guatemala, we will bring you an unparalleled experience that is both eye-opening and enjoyable.
This seven-day trip begins with an in-country flight from Guatemala City to the beautiful island town of Flores in the Department (province) of Petén, where we will stop for lunch. We then drive to Río Dulce in the Department of Izabal, Guatemala’s prime coastal Caribbean region, where we’ll stay in a hotel on beautiful Lago Izabal.

Over the next two days, we will visit five schools that we work with in the adjacent Department of Alta Verapaz. The thriving greenhouses they have built with our support will be at their highest production, just prior to harvest. We will have an opportunity to meet the students and their teachers to hear about their experiences.

We’ll then spend two days visiting important cultural and historical sites: the Castle of San Felipe, an important colonial fortress of the 17th century (in Izabal) and the Mayan ruins in Tikal (in Petén).

Your fee includes customized round-trip airport-to-hotel transportation, as well as a flight from Guatemala City to Petén and ground transport to and from the Guatemalan Caribbean (8 hours each way) and to Alta Verapaz, a 3-hour trip each way. We will stop for lunch in local high-quality restaurants and use accommodations.
